This Full time position heavily focuses on working in the kitchen and managing staff, in addition to sharing responsibilities with the Cafe Operations Coordinator, such as administrative tasks, reinforcing kitchen standards around sanitization and daily operations, setting the standard for the quality of the food produced, and attending the worker’s collective meeting.
Starting Wage is $17.50/hour, plus tips - Paid Vacation and PTO after one year - Perks include store discounts and shift meals

Riverwest Co-op Cafe Kitchen Coordinator: Job Description
Summary of position: This is a full-time (up to 40 hours/week) position, assisting in maintaining the daily operation of the Riverwest Co-op Café. This position heavily focuses on working in the kitchen and managing staff, in addition to sharing responsibilities with the Cafe Operations Coordinator, such as administrative tasks, reinforcing kitchen standards around sanitization and daily operations, setting the standard for the quality of the food produced, and attending the worker’s collective meeting.
The cafe is a very active neighborhood eating and gathering place. We are seeking the right individual who has the vision, time and talent to develop this unique Riverwest venue. Since the café also has a lot of moving parts, this position is best suited for an individual who feels comfortable working independently and can develop strong working relationships with staff.
Daily Duties
Respond to customer requests and concerns promptly.
Check deep cleaning tasks and daily cleaning tasks - make sure they are getting done at a high standard.
Ensure that the product we are selling is not only fresh but also consistent. The Cafe Kitchen Coordinator will work with staff on standardizing cooking practices so that our food is reliable in both taste and texture.
Work with the Cafe Operations Coordinator to develop new recipes and standardize old ones.
Track waste and transfers between the store and the cafe. Ensure that all staff are filling pars in order to make the operational flow of the kitchen smooth.
Work the grill and food production, including grab ‘n' go and bakery (scheduled 3-5 shifts per week).
Be on-call for any staff issues, with Cafe Operations Coordinator as back-up.
Staff Management Responsibilities
Hire and manage all café employees with Cafe Operations Coordinator.
Train staff to comply with all applicable health and safety laws. Train all staff in kitchen prep, cleaning, recipes and service. Maintain and update task lists for employees, such as opening and closing procedures.
Conduct performance reviews with the Cafe Operations Coordinator. Organize and manage the monthly cafe staff meeting with the Cafe Operations Coordinator.
Train staff on new recipe standards in order to ensure uniform product.
Kitchen Management Responsibilities
Maintain café environment to health code requirements with Cafe Operations Coordinator.
Oversee recipe consistency and develop new items with the Cafe Operations Coordinator.
Monitor food quality.
Ensure café’s compliance with health and safety regulations. Record all store-to-cafe transfers.
Record minutes for all Cafe meetings. Share with the Board, WC, and all staff.
Financial Responsibilities/Catering
Work with the Cafe Operations Coordinator on participating in and coordinating events.
Prepare any special orders or catering. Develop a catering menu with the Cafe Operations Coordinator.
Attend weekly Workers’ Collective meetings.
Assist Cafe Operations Coordinator in tracking café income and expenses and adjusting prices to reflect supply/demand.
Responsibilities to Workers’ Collective (General Management Role)
Attend weekly Workers’ Collective meetings and record minutes when needed.
Attend monthly Board meetings and prepare a report for the café in collaboration with the Cafe Operations Coordinator.
Attend monthly Finance Committee meetings.
Collaborate with Workers’ Collective on various projects including Scheduling Co-op events
Co-op-wide improvements - implementation and vision
Strategic Planning Committee initiatives
Recipe changes and menu changes.
Facilitating communication with the Board, Cafe Operations Coordinator and staff.
Work as a team with all Workers’ Collective members, which includes cross-training as needed to support the smooth functioning of the Co-op as a whole.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND QUALITIES
Must be able to be on feet for 8 hours a day and occasional heavy lifting.
Must be motivated and take initiative.
Previous kitchen/cooking experience.
Organizational and multitasking skills.
Understanding of cost and inventory control.
Friendly customer relations demeanor.
Demonstrates leadership ability, such as delegating tasks and adequately training coworkers
Communication skills; ability to listen, speak and write clearly, can give and receive feedback and constructive criticism.
Ability to work with people of a wide range of skills, personalities, and backgrounds.
Willingness to work collaboratively with paid staff and volunteers. Computer literacy (Google Docs/Sheets, Windows).
DESIRED QUALITIES
Experience with a cooperative, not-for-profit business model. Experience with vegan and vegetarian food.
Experience working in a strong team work environment. Knowledge of menu and deli items.
Experience with general management.
Cooking and recipe development experience.
ServSafe protocol experience.
SALARY AND BENEFITS
Starting wage is $17.50/hour.
Paid biweekly.
