Communication Committee Minutes 4-28-10

RWC Communications Committee Minutes 4/28

Attending: Lisa, Sandra, Erin, and Gene

Donations: We have not heard back from either of the groups we contacted after the last meeting about their donation requests. If/when we hear back from them, the donations we approved at the last meeting still stand.

The only additional request this month was from Feeding America (formerly America’s Second Harvest) for gift certificates to give away at a fundraising event. The committee approved giving the organization $30 worth of gift certificates.

Ads: Farm Fresh Atlas contacted us to see if we wanted copies to give away at the co-op. We agreed to ask for 50 copies to put in the display racks.

For the June Currents ad, the committee discussed spotlighting Locust Street Days

Events: The committee discussed the need for a new banner before the start of summer events. Erin will check with Gibson on whether this is being taken care of by another volunteer who had offered to pay for the banner in the past. Erin will also contact QuadGraphics and get a quote for a 2” by 8” all-weather vinyl banner.

Since the Events Coordinator position is still in discussion with the board, Lisa will be coordinating the Co-op’s booth for Locust Street Days. Plans are to serve BBQ tofu wraps, falafel wraps and cookies. And to have a banner.

Website: The new website is live. Kevin, the designer, attended the last Worker’s Collective meeting, and will be attending the next Collective meeting on 5/3 to answer additional questions. The Committee’s responsibilities in terms of the website were discussed. It was determined that since we are responsible for the Co-op’s communications, the Communications Committee should take responsibility for making sure the website is updated on a regular basis. Erin volunteered to coordinate this. She will attend the next Worker’s Collective meeting and contact the Co-op’s other committees and ask them each to designate a member as their website contact.

Interdependent: The Communications Committee has been given full responsibility for putting out the quarterly newsletter (with Shay and Melanie continuing to do design and printing). Since the spring issue is already behind schedule, the committee decided to put out the next issue as the summer issue. The Committee will be setting up a timeline to make sure the newsletter comes out on a regular schedule; it was decided that the Interdependent will be published on the summer and winter equinoxes and spring and fall solstices. As such, the next issue of the Interdependent will be published on June 21.

The next Communications Committee meeting will be Wednesday, 5/12 at 7pm.

The Co-op is closed May 1 in celebration of May Day.
